ABOUT US

Appearance with Guy Fieri

Friday, May 14, 2021, on "Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives," Guy Fieri checked out a mix of familiar places and new faces. In South Florida, our Kasa Champet Restaurant & Lounge était à l'honneur.

Kasa Champet management and staff were proud to host part of that segment of Diners, Drive-Ins and Dive. The fried pork and pikliz did not disappoint.

TRIBUTE TO MAXIMO

Our friend Maxime Dias, better known as Maximo, died Sunday, January 28, 2018 at Cleveland Clinic in Weston after a courageous battle with cancer. He was 55 years old. Maximo was the brains behind the opening of a decent Haitian restaurant and club named Casa Champet in Pembroke Pines.

It all started with Casa Campestre opened in September 2008 on Hiatus Road and Pines Blvd. When Maximo realized his Haitian friends and others could not find the Restaurant because of the name, it was moved on July 5, 2010 to the Lowe's shopping Center on Pines Blvd and University Drive under the name Casa Champet Restaurant And Bar. Then, October 24, 2014, the restaurant was moved once more to a bigger location on the South East Corner of Pines Blvd and University Drive. It was renamed Kasa Champet Restaurant And Lounge as we all know. The rest is history.

Casa Champet Restaurant And Bar at the Lowe's Shopping Center location was Maximo's Jewel. Friends used to stop by regularly to check on the work in progress before the grand opening. Maximo was always there. He not only worked eight hours for the Florida Highway Patrol, he would add another eight hours to his workload to fix the place for opening day, eight hours of lifting, banging, pushing, pulling, and hanging up stuff. Max turned the place to a little palace. It was pretty, unique, and beautifully decorated with contemporary Haitian arts and memorabilia. At the opening reception, we noticed the presence of the Mayor of Pembroke Pines. He was impressed as well as the other dignitaries and guests.

Maximo worked tirelessly on behalf of Kasa Champet. If Kasa Champet is the place to be these days, Max deserves some credit. Haitian Businessmen and Women, Professionals, and others make Kasa Champet their favorite venue to party on weekends. At Kasa Champet, you're always among friends. I remember Max saying “Kasa Champet is the place pour tous, mais pour les “Anciens Jeunes” en particulier. Dress code strictly enforced”. In addition, Maximo never allowed a promoter to remove the chairs inside the restaurant to increase attendance for private events. “On doit s'assoir.”

Before Kasa Champet opened its doors, Haitians and friends had to stand up all night inside Haitian dance clubs. Maximo was a visionary. Although the food is the main reason we love Kasa Champet, on Saturday nights the chairs are extremely useful to us. Thanks to Max, we all can seat. It's the norm these days.

Unfortunately, Maximo won't be around to witness the continuous success of Kasa Champet. The good news, however, the restaurant is in good hands.

RIP MAXIMO
